Kosherica Summer Getaway

As an advertising sales manager for a prominent New York based weekly Newspaper I deal very frequently with different travel venues who wish to advertise their programs. In these last few years, given the struggling economy, while advertising as a whole has been on the up it seems that many of these travel companies have scaled back in the number of tours that they offer per season – that is with the exception of Kosherica.

Having written in the past about Kosherica as a whole as well as some of the personalities that run the day to day operations and continuously develop new concepts in kosher travel, it seems that the prevailing trend in Kosherica’s seasonal schedule these past few years have reflected steady growth, unlike many other kosher travel companies. Before getting into the endless details and reasons to entrust your travel plans with Kosherica, I think that alone is indicative of the fact that they have their finger on the pulse of the needs of the discerning kosher traveler.

Above and beyond our top ten list of reasons for going away and what each of us respectively looks to accomplish on our vacations, the underlying commonality found in all of our plans is the opportunity to recharge and rejuvenate ourselves allowing us to carry out our day to day lives and responsibilities with greater focus and energy. What’s particularly rewarding about a summer getaway is that in many cases the children are away from home having a blast in summer camps giving us added peace of mind and allowing us to relax and enjoy ourselves with greater ease. So while a large part of Kosherica’s success has been their endless breathtaking excursions to the worlds most magnificent sites an equal amount of time is spent aboard the worlds leading cruise liners being wined, dined and entertained and being serviced by the entire team in a manner of aristocracy.

As mentioned one of the most astonishing aspects of Koshericas growth is the way they continue to outdo themselves from season to season qualitatively in the continuous stream of new and exciting destinations and excursions and quantitatively in the number of cruises leaving from various starting points on varying dates throughout the summer solely for the convenience of the traveler. In the famous words of James Earl Jones for a New Jersey Bell Yellow Pages commercial, “I need More Choices” and Kosherica delivers just that.

On that note, a visit to their website at www.kosherica.com will reflect twelve cruises running from June through August. The Western Mediterranean Cruise aboard the Norwegian Cruise Lines is leaving first on 6/24/12 and another time on 8/19/12. The Western Mediterranean boards in Barcelona and includes stops in Naples, Rome, Nice and Provence. The Greek Isles cruise aboard the all new Costa’sc newest ship, the Fascianosa, leaving on 6/25/12 and again 0n 8/6/12 makes stops in Venice, Bari, Katakolon, Santorini, Rhodes and Dubrovnik.

If you have never basked in the rich history of the Baltics and Norway this summer is the perfect time to do so. With a 10 night cruise leaving 6/24/12 and then again 7/31/12 as well as a whopping 17 night cruise leaving 7/31/12 and finally a week long cruise to the Norwegian Fjords you will be given the opportunity to explore Stockholm, Estonia, St Petersburg, Helsinki, Berlin, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Norway and more.

When mentioning Kosherica it’s impossible not to mention their amazing Alaska Cruise. This summer you will have four diffeent opportunities to get in on a cruise that all cruise participants cannot stop raving about. The four Alaskan Cruise dates are 6.24/12, 8/5/12, 8/12/12 and 8/19/2012 boarding in Seattle and stopping off at Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Ketchikan and Victoria BC.

Of equal Paramount importance is Kosherica’s commitment to providing gourmet cuisine and five star culinary services, all Glatt Kosher Pas Yisrael and Cholov Yisrael.

With the snow falling earlier than it has in recent history wreaking havoc as it has in many communities the summer just cannot come quick enough. But hopefully this article will create imagery of warmth, sunlight and summer and give you a little hope for the coming months. But what would be best for you at this point would be to pick up your phone and call 305 695 2700 or 877 724 5567 and secure a spot on one of Koshericas many getaways and finally experience what everyone has been raving about. Kosherica always sells out.

SOUTH AFRICA: THE COMPREHENSIVE TOUR

Kosherica is not just about amazing cruises. We offer many other types of amazing Kosher vacations.

Here is a rundown of our one of our most popular Kosher tours- South Africa!

South Africa is becoming an increasingly desired destination by international travelers. It’s a country of numerous diversities: scenic, cultural, and of course, natural. Africans and Afrikaners, Muslims, Indians and Jews make up a mosaic that’s crucial to understanding this newborn “Rainbow Nation.” Visit the world famous Kruger National Park, the largest wildlife reserve in Africa; Victoria Falls, the largest waterfall in the world at three times the width and height of Niagara; and the Cape of Good Hope – “the fairest cape in all the world.”South Africa

Itinerary
Day 1-2, Monday – Tuesday: Home - Johannesburg - Blyde River Canyon

We meet our guide in Johannesburg from where we’ll board our coach for the drive to Mpumalanga Province, renowned for its amazing scenery and multitude of spectacular waterfalls. We’ll spend the night in the area.

Day 3, Wednesday Blyde River Canyon - Kruger National Park

After breakfast we'll depart to view some of the panoramic landscapes in the area: the Blyde River Canyon, God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and other astounding viewing areas where we will marvel at the endless African landscapes. We'll make a stop at Lone Creek Falls and at "Pilgrim's Rest" where South Africa's Gold Rush peaked. In the evening we'll make our way to our lodge in the Kruger National Park, the most famous game reserve in the world. Here we'll prepare for dinner and overnight in the game reserve.

Day 4, Thursday Kruger National Park
Africa

With early light we’ll undertake our main open-vehicle safari excursion in search of “the Big Five”: Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo – as well as other wild game in the reserve.

Day 5, Friday Kruger National Park - Johannesburg

Today we depart Kruger National Park and head for Johannesburg – eGoli: City of Gold. The city, South Africa’s largest metropolis, has an active and vibrant Jewish community, many synagogues and kosher restaurants. Upon arrival we’ll tour some of the major Jewish landmarks, including the impressive holocaust memorial, and some of the synagogues. We’ll continue to our hotel to prepare for Shabbat.
Day 6, Shabbat Johannesburg

After Shabbat services and lunch we’ll take a walking tour of the area.
Day 7, Sunday Johannesburg – Victoria Falls
Africa

This morning we’ll make our way to Johannesburg International Airport for our flight to Victoria Falls, on the border between Zambia & Zimbabwe. In the evening we’ll take in a lively local folklore show describing African tribal life.
Day 8, Monday Victoria Falls – Cape Town

“The Smoke that Thunders” – is the African name for Victoria Falls. You can hear it roar and see the spray over the jungle, from a distance of 20 minutes drive away. Over a mile wide and 300 meters high, this is probably the single place in the world that can be truly described by the word: breathtaking!

With this spectacle in our minds, we’ll depart for our flight to another one of nature’s great beauties: Cape Town, Mother City of South Africa. Cape Town, situated in the south western corner of the African continent, was the first white colony on the continent. In the middle of the 17th century, the Dutch East India Company established there a service station for its ships traversing the continent on their way to the East, and the city grew from there. The city’s architecture is mixed: Dutch, British-Victorian and African, with Islamic elements that came with the arrival in Cape Town of Slaves from Malaysia.
Day 9, Tuesday Cape Town

South Africa is slowly becoming very famous for its magnificent wines. We’ll depart Cape Town this morning for a drive to the Cape’s Wine Route towns of Stellenbosch and Franschoek, where we’ll marvel at the indigenous Cape-Dutch architecture. From there we’ll travel to the own of Paarl where we’ll stop in at the Zandwyk Kosher Winery, for some wine tasting. In the afternoon we’ll take a boat ride to Robben Island, the infamous prison in which Nelson Mandela was held for over 26 years. After the visit we’ll make our way back to the city to visit the Cape Castle, the Gardens, Government Avenue which is home to the National Library and Archives, The Houses of Parliament, the President’s Residence, the South African Museum of Art and South Africa’s oldest Synagogue. We’ll visit South Africa’s world-renowned Jewish Museums complex, before we return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 10, Wednesday Cape of Good Hope
Africa

Today we’ll head out to the nature reserve at the Cape of Good Hope, which is within easy driving distance of the city. A wild, rocky coastline lies at the foot of the green vegetation-filled mountains of the Cape. The drive is breathtaking, and we’ll stop along the way and various lookout points, such as Chapman’s peak, Hout Bay, and others. The Cape of Good Hope is a must-see destination for anyone who as ever read books of ocean-going seafarers who discovered the main navigable sea routes that serve the marine world to this very day. At the tip of the Cape of Good Hope, is Cape point, meeting place of the Atlantic and Indian oceans. Our return to Cape Town will be via the penguin settlement at The Boulders; Simonstown, home to South Africa’s navy; and Muizenberg, once South Africa Jewry’s premier summer destination (which was nicknamed “Jewsenberg.”)
Day 11, Thursday Cape Town – Table Mountain

Today we’ll take the cable car to the top of famous Table Mountain for a magnificent view of the city and the Cape Peninsula. We’ll finish our shopping in Cape Town’s markets and then, in the afternoon, we’ll make our way to Cape Town International Airport, for our flight home.
Day 12, Friday Home

Welcome home & Shabbat Shalom. It’s time to rest up after this spectacular tour to the jewel in the crown of the African continent.

Kosher Cruises and Vacations are the BEST!

From the tropical sun of the Caribbean to icy glaciers in Alaska, from the historic cities of the Baltics to the luxurious Greek Isles, Kosherica and JSC are committed to letting the Kosher vacationer explore the wonders of the Seven Seas in luxury and comfort. This, and its provision of Glatt Kosher, Cholov Yisrael, Pas Yisrael gourmet meals is one on the many reasons Kosherica has a sterling reputation as the leader in the Kosher cruise and tour industry. All food is prepared under the strict supervision of the MGK (Maritime Glatt Kosher) and elegantly presented on china, white linen and crystal.

In 2011, Kosherica will once again boast a cruise menu including 7- to 20-day sailings from fascinating ports of call. Luxury ships will sail everywhere from Estonia, Finland, Russia and Sweden to Alaska's majestic Glacier Bay and the cornucopia of fall colors along the coast of New England and Canada. The sights of the Roman Empire-- Italy, Croatia and Turkey, join the traditional Greek Isles and Caribbean cruise line-up. This astounding assortment of our choices are designed to please families and singles of all cruise-going ages. On board, in addition to the myriad of amenities available on a luxury liner, Kosherica’s programming includes Shabbat services, women’s Israeli dance classes, lectures, Daf Yomi, minyanim, mixers, private movie screenings and the Fun Factory Kosherica kids club for children. There is also a singles division, JSinglesCruise. The worldwide leaders in Jewish Singles Cruises, JSinglesCruise provides the ultimate Kosher cruises to destinations around the world.

Since its founding in 1996, Kosherica has hosted more Kosher cruises and Jewish cruise vacationers than all other Kosher vacation companies. All Kosherica cruises set sail on five-star ocean liners from industry leaders like Costa and Holland America.

Going on a Kosherica Glatt Kosher cruise in 2012 is also an opportunity to expand one’s horizons. A smorgasbord of shore excursions is available on every sailing. In addition to meeting people from all over the world, guests can explore exotic locales through excursions that may take them snorkeling with dolphins, helicoptering over a volcano or marveling at glaciers. Or they can spend shore time biking along a stunning coastline, exploring rain forests, shopping at duty-free shops or lounging on the beach.

Israeli Executive Chef Porat Raises the Bar on Kosher Cruises

Copenhagen…As the executive chef of the five-star Dan Acadia in Herzliya, Ariel (“Arik”) Porat is already considered one of Israel’s leading kosher chefs. But earlier this month, Arik brought his mastery aboard the new Costa Deliziosa in a cruise to the Baltics, sponsored by Kosherica, a leader in the growing popularity of kosher vacations that include resident scholars and world-class entertainment. For the more than 200 vacationers (out of 2160 passengers), the 7-day cruise was also a week-long culinary experience, as it has been on many of the Kosherica cruises that featured Arik.

Each evening, passengers in the elegant third floor hall dined on a five-course meal that included several choices of beef, poultry, and fish, much like those served in some of the finest hotels and restaurants. For Helit Edelstein of Kosherica, the logistical challenges of having a world-class chef of Porat’s reputation “is all part of the experience,” which on this particular cruise included Rabbi Stephen Riskin of Efrat and Cantor Yaakov Motzen. The “challenges” also included recruiting reputable kosher supervisors and, of course, acquiring the best meats, fish and other ingredients for the world-class chef. Ofi Fishman, Helit’s brother, and a key player in planning the menus, prides himself on the quality of the baked goods that is prepared on board as well as the quality natural and fresh ingredients.

While their acclaimed culinary delights have become almost routine, they still are busy “educating” the ship’s staff and most importantly catering to the needs of a “very sophisticated clientele” that on this particular jewish cruise came from as far away as Melbourne and from such places as Gibraltar, Tel Aviv, Montreal, Toronto, London, and New York. Kosher industry sources say that kosher cruising has increased by more than 20% in the past five years, despite the recession. While some travelers still prefer going on a cruise with the cruise ship providing “kosher airline-like meals,” the trend is towards joining the total kosher experience that companies like Kosherica offer. David Wallace of Eddie’s Travel, which partnered with Kosherica for the kosher cruises, sees a growing number of kosher travelers opting for organized kosher travel to many destinations throughout the world. He is already joining Kosherica for Sukkot programs at the Dan Caesarea and Hacienda Forest View hotels in Israel and for many winter cruises in the Caribbean.

As the kosher passengers disembarked in Copenhagen after an amazing Kosher tour that visited Tallinn, Estonia, Helsinki, Finland, St. Petersburg, Russia and Stockholm, Sweden, the talk was about “the experience” which meant the Kosherica program and, of course, the food of Arik. For more information and to reserve your spot aboard a Kosherica cruise, visit www.kosherica.com or contact 877-724-5567 or 305-695-2700.

The Kosher Options Are Endless With Kosherica

THIS winter, whether you are looking to travel alone or with the family, Kosherica is the most logical, convenient and rewarding option to travel with — and the kosher options are endless.

Kicking off the winter cruise season is a December 25 Chanucah Cruise, which embarks from New York City to the Bahamas, making stops at the beaches in Orlando, the private Island of Great Stirrup Cay and then on to Nassau before heading back to NYC. This is a perfect warm getaway.

This cruise has been, until now, uncharted territory , but it is indic ative of Kosherica's innovation and ingenuity and it is what sets them apart from the rest.

January 22 marks Kosherica's annual Jewish Music Festival at sea. If you're a fan of Jewish music then there is nothing more you could ask for.

This mid-winter cruise to the Caribbean features the Jewish worlds most talented voices including Avraham Fried, Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, world-renowned Israeli Broadway sensation Dudu Fisher and more. What is more unique than the concerts and the heart-rending cantorial Shabbat tefillot is the opportunity to spend a week with the entertainers on a more up-close and personal level — an opportunity only made available on a Kosherica cruise.

If you were thinking of taking the kids along on mid-winter break this January 22 Cruise to the Caribbean aboard Royal Caribbean's, Allure of The Seas, the world's largest and most exciting cruise ship to date.

This will probably keep the kids as well as yourselves occupied to the point that you may have to fight with them to join you for the meals or for an excursion or two.

From one season to the next the Kosherica cruises and kosher tours have been known to sell-out quickly, so dial 0203 318 2725 or log onto www.kosherica.com and secure your midwinter plans.

Kosher Cruise Tips

With that in mind, here's a list of common questions that we get on almost every kosher holiday we take:

Air Travel

Naturalized U.S. citizens are advised to carry their naturalization papers. Aliens who are residents of the U.S. must carry their Alien Registration Card and passport. All others must have valid passports and necessary visas.

Please check current visa requirements with the appropriate embassies or consulates.

What clothing should I pack?
Most of the time, you'll feel comfortable in casual resort wear including light cotton clothing. Sweaters, lightweight jackets, raincoats and hats are also appropriate for Northern Europe. Tennis shoes or low-heeled walking shoes are recommended for exploring the ports of call. While most shore excursions do not have dress codes, some tours specifically prohibit shorts and sleeveless shirts, and require ladies to wear knee-length skirts or slacks.
There is usually two formal galas to which ladies will wish to wear long gowns or cocktail-length dresses; gentlemen may choose either tuxedos or dark suits. Number of formal nights may vary depending on cruise length and itinerary. On other evenings, resort attire is the norm.

What is the climate like?
Temperatures in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean (April through October) average 14 - 31 degrees Celsius; 57 - 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course, they may vary.
Temperatures in Caribbean: (November - April) average 72-85 degrees. Of course, they may vary.
Temperatures in South America: (December - March) average 71-84 degrees. Of course, they may vary.

Can I phone home?
Ship-to-shore telephone service is available 24 hours a day while the ship is at sea or in port from your stateroom. You'll find a telephone and dialing instructions in your stateroom.
If you need to be reached by people at home, have them call or fax the ship directly; or they can contact you via email through your own Internet Service Provider which you can then access via the Internet Cafe.

Is internet service available?
You can send and receive emails through your own service provider in the Internet Café for a nominal charge.

How do I plan my on-shore activities?
Naturally, you are free to explore many of the ports of call on your own, however, Costa has arranged a variety of shore excursion for you convenience. Each excursion is carefully researched by our Shore Excursion Staff to ensure your experience ashore is as enriching and enjoyable as your stay aboard. You may pre-book your excursions online by visiting www.costacruises.com and selecting . Personalize Your Cruise. . You will need to enter your booking number and your name as it appears on your reservation. The excursion selected will be debited to you onboard account . Or, if you prefer, you may purchase the shore excursion onboard at the Shore Excursion Desk. Shore Excursions are subject to availability and not available on all ships and sail dates.

What about laundry and dry cleaning services?
Complete valet services including laundry, pressing and dry cleaning, can be arranged through your stateroom steward/stewardess and billed to your shipboard account.

We hope this answers most of your questions as you plan your trip. For further information on how to get the most out of your kosher cruise, please visit our website: http://www.kosherica.com!!

Shana Tova From Kosherica Kosher Tours & Cruises

Traveling with Kosherica

By Yochanan Gordon

Glossing through the pages of Jewish Newspapers these days you'll find an extraordinary number of Rosh Hashana and Succos related ads. More than anything else, this means that schools are in full swing, the Yomim Tovim are upon us and the summer is fading further out of our purview.

During the heat of the summer the forecasters were already predicting the oncoming of the chilly weather earlier than ever, which probably means that you will be wearing layers in an attempt to keep warm during those night time seudos in the Succah. So with all the preparations required to host family and friends for an extended Rosh Hashana season, then again come Succos, and cold weather to boot, you will surely feel the need to getaway. The good news is that your vacation has been mapped out in its entirety and it is assured to be the most rewarding vacation of your life thanks to the folks at Kosherica.

The Kosherica team is looking forward to their greatest winter cruise season ever. Having spoken to family friends who went with my recommendation to travel with Kosherica for the first time to Alaska this summer, I understand that outdoing such a getaway would be quite a daunting challenge, but Kosherica has set a standard for outdoing themselves with each passing travel season, so there is no better time to finally experience a vacation the way it was meant to be - you certainly owe it to yourselves.

For almost two decades, the Kosherica family has been partnering with the worlds leading cruise-liners in providing the Jewish traveler with the opportunity to travel the world in five-star luxury, unparalleled kosher entertainment, dynamic and thought provoking scholars in residence and delectable kosher cuisine second to none. I like to call it therapy for the body and the soul. It is truly the most wholesome experience available.

This winter, whether you are looking to travel alone or with family, Kosherica is the most logical, convenient and rewarding option to travel with and the options are endless. Kicking off the winter cruise season is a Dec 25th Cruise which embarks from NYC to the Bahamas making stops at the beaches in Orlando, the private Island of Great Stirrup Cay and then on to Nassau before heading back to NYC. Given ten hours in Orlando and Nassau as well as seven hours to tour Great Stirrup Cay is plenty of time to bask in its beauty and see its historic sites before heading back to the Cruise ship and back towards the City. Oh, and If your worried about missing the snow in NY you could contact friends and family from the sun-filled, sandy beaches of Orlando and ask them where they would rather be.

On January 8th, 2012 Kosherica will lead a cruise to Asia. This a fourteen night cruise will explore the fascinating sites of Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and China. China visas will be required for travelers interested in embarking on this particular cruise. This cruise has been until now uncharted territory as far as cruises are concerned, but it is indicative of Kosherica's innovation and ingenuity and it is what sets them apart from the rest of them.

January 22, 2012 marks Kosherica's annual Jewish Music Festival at sea. If your a fan of Jewish Music then there is nothing more you could ask for. This mid-winter cruise to the Caribbean features the Jewish worlds most talented voices including Avraham Fried, Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, World renowned Israeli Broadway sensation Dudu Fisher and more. What is more unique than the concerts and the heartrending cantorial Shabbos tefillos is the opportunity to spend a week with the entertainers on a more up-close and personal level, an opportunity only made available on a Kosherica cruise.

If you were thinking of taking the kids along on mid-winter break this January 22nd Cruise to the Caribbean aboard Royal Caribbean’s, Allure of The Seas, the world’s largest and most exciting cruise ship to date. This will probably keep the kids as well as yourselves occupied to the point that you may have to fight with them to join you for the meals or for an excursion or two. The Allure of the seas boasts an impressive 28 ultra modern loft suites, 2700 rooms and 16 decks. It is the only Cruise-liner home to the Dreamwork's experience featuring the very characters from Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to train your dragon. Travelers aboard this ship will have the opportunity to pose for pictures and interact with the characters during meals and watch their respective three dimensional movies in a designated onboard theatre.

Kosherica spends endless attention to each nuance in its travel itinerary with the traveller in mind. Every new destination, scholar in residence and entertainer are leaders in their respective areas of expertise.

It's quite hard to fathom but all that is in addition to the intricately detailed schedule prepared by the experts at the Kosherica Family. From one season to the next the Kosherica cruises have been known to sell out quickly, so pick up your phone and dial 305 695 2700, 877 724 5567 or log onto www.kosherica.com and secure your mid-winter plans, you will thank me that you did but most importantly of all you will thank yourselves. Bon Voyage!!!
